Trollope, Anthony. The Two Heroines of Plumplington, 1882

Lithographed cover of "The Two Heroines of Plumplington" depicting the two heroines and a father character.

Originally published in 1882 in the Christmas Edition of Household Words, this story is one of Trollope’s least known. It is also supposedly Trollope’s final tale of Barsetshire, which he wrote after the publication of The Last Chronicle of Barset. This copy, published in 1953, features an introduction by John Hampden and lithographs by Linton Lamb. The story follows two similar women with two similar fathers who are displeased with their daughters’ chosen suitors. Both girls manipulate their fathers into conceding, and end up marrying their men of choice.
